• THE WALKS

• We meet in the city of Oviedo, the capital city of the Principality of Asturias. 

• The Camino Primitivo starts in Oviedo´s Cathedral crossing the region of Asturias and into Galicia through Lugo´s province to join El Camino Frances (French Way) in Melide just 55 km away from Santiago de Compostela.

• The distance of The Camino Primitivo is 321 km and it is considered to be the toughest out of all Camino de Santiago Routes due to many steep up and down hills throughout the region of Asturias.

• The Camino Primitivo is the first pilgrimage route to Santiago, the oldest one. The King Alfonso II, The Chaste, undertook in the IX century the journey to Santiago from Asturias to confirm that the remains unearthed in Compostela did indeed belong to the Apostle St James. Alfonso II ordained the construction of the first church in Compostela to hold the remains of the Apostle what became within time The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and creating the first of all pilgrimage ways to Santiago "The Primitive Way" Camino Primitivo.

•  We stay in 3/4 star hotels, Paradores Nacionales (National Historical Heritage Buildings), Pazos Gallegos (Galician Heritage Stately House) all converted into tasty and selected accommodation).

• Extra nights in Santiago could be arranged. Please ask for prices.

• El Camino Primitivo is considered to be the toughest out of all Camino de Santiago Routes due to many steep up and down hills in the region of Asturias.

• We will cover an average of 23 km a day.
