• THE WALKS

• We meet in the Templars city of Ponferrada, at the centric Hotel Aroi Bierzo Plaza . El Camino de Invierno (The Winter Route) to Santiago was traditionally used by pilgrims as a winter alternative to avoid the snow and harsh conditions of the mountains of the Bierzo and O Cebreiro area. This lesser known and less traveled trail links The Bierzo area with Santiago de Compostela through the valley of the River Sil and River Miño. A well known area called "Riveira Sacra" famous for its vineyards and the lovely wines produces in the area. It is the only Camino de Santiago that crosses the four Galician Provinces (Orense, Lugo, Pontevedra and A Coruña). The trail starts in the Templar city of Ponferrada to continue through the archeological site of "Las Medulas" (vast gold open mines exploited by the Romans). We enter Galicia at the Valdeorras comarque, well know for the extraction of slate and the production of wonderful wines. Finally we join The Silver Route (Ruta de La Plata) towards Santiago de Compostela.

•  We stay in 3/4 star hotels, Paradores Nacionales (National Historical Heritage Buildings converted into tasty and selected accommodation), Pazos Gallegos (Galician Heritage Stately House) and lovely comfortable hotels.

• Extra nights in Santiago could be arranged. Please ask for prices.

• LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY

• The terrain is easy to moderate walking with some hills. We will cover an average of 20 km a day, though shorter walks available daily.
